Upcoming Events

CONFERENCES
Here are a couple of events that I would highly encourage you to attend!
You can use these toward your total hours!

Perry Outreach Program - Ladies Only! Application deadline is July 8th!
We’re very excited to announce an upcoming Perry Outreach Program on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Stryker Endoscopy in San Jose, CA. The Perry Outreach Program is a free, one-day, hands-on experience for high school and college-aged women who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine and engineering. Students will hear from women leaders in these fields and try it for themselves by performing mock orthopaedic surgeries and biomechanics experiments.
We are now seeking applicants for this Bay Area program. Participants should be women in grades 10 and up with an expressed interest in science, medicine and/or engineering.  We would very much appreciate if you could pass this information along to any high school principals, high school science teachers or high school students you may know.  Applicants should be directed to fill out our online application in advance of the July 8, 2015 application deadline.
Additional information can be found on our website: www.perryinitiative.org
The application may be accessed directly using the following link:http://perryinitiative.org/programs/student-online-application/

UCDAVIS PreHealth Conference
Open to ALL! Only $95 (includes meals, hotel and transportation from UC Berkeley!)   Registration deadline is October 4th! (but it usually sells out)
Over the past thirteen years, the Pre-Medical and Pre-Health Conference has grown from a local community-college event, attended by 231 students in 2003, to a national venue, hosting some 8,823 attendees at the University of California, Davis in 2014. The conference not only maintains its reputation for being the largest pre-medical and pre-health professions gathering at an undergraduate institution, but also stands as the only two-day event of its kind, supporting URM students (underrepresented in medicine, as defined by the AAMC), interested in a career in medicine.
The 2015 Event Poster is Now Available to View. It Summarizes the Event, Keynotes, Workshops, and More. Check it Out!
The unique character of the conference stems from the fact that it is entirely planned, staffed, coordinated, and funded by pre-medical and pre-health professions students keenly aware of the challenges facing their peers, who aspire to become health professionals.
The two-day event hosts an excellent selection of keynote speakers, Dean’s Panels, and 350 workshops covering a wide variety of health professional topics. Additional full day programs are run which focus on medicine, pharmacy, nursing, veterinary medicine, physician assistant, physical and occupational therapy, PhD graduate studies, optometry and public health.
Some key elements of the conference are the Pre-Health Professions Fair and the Dean’s Panels. During the fair, attendees are provided with an unparalleled opportunity to interact with school administrators from nearly all US medical schools and a wide variety of other Pre-Health Professional schools. During the course of an Admission’s Panel, Deans discuss their respective institutions – including admission requirements and qualities desired in prospective students – and take part in a moderated Q and A session. After this, attendees are given the opportunity to select from 350 workshops. Each session is an opportunity for attendees to explore the medical school/health professional school admissions process such as crafting one’s personal statement, your specific school curriculum, summer programs, financial aid, study skills, the MCAT, NET, PCAT, DAT, GRE, career options, time management, and others. Many of the workshops are led by Deans of Admissions from the country’s premier schools, leading experts, and faculty researchers.

Please let me know if you plan to attend either of these conferences!
